INsPIREd

INform and involve the population in the Prevention of seismic risk and tsunami, contributing to minimize damages and Increase REsilience of the cities of Cascais and Lagos, in Portugal, and Tangier and M'diq in Morroco.

The INSPIRED project is the natural continuation of the VULRESADA project, developed by CERU and the CEPRIS, but now with the collaboration of the CUEBC from Italy. After the assessment of seismic risk and tsunami of the studied towns (Cascais and Lagos, in Portugal, Tanger and M'Diq, in Morocco) performed during the VULRESADA project, in the INSPIRED it is intended to alert the authorities and the population in general, and involve them actively in measures to mitigate these risks.

OBJECTIVES

TASKS

Increase the resilience of the population to seismic risk and tsunami.

Identify the information to be transmitted to the population in order to be prepared for a seismic event, such as the procedures to be followed during the occurrence of the event and the period immediately after.

Identify actions to increase people's risk culture.

Identify ways of population participation, according to their organizations: residents associations, socio-professional groups, cultural and recreational associations.

Identify information channels that will be used to organize a collective response to an earthquake and/or tsunami, framed in the civil protection actions: information on evacuation routes, areas of local concentration, flyers, signage used.

2014

WP 1		Launch seminar of the project to establish principles of action, involving the authorities, civil protection associations and companies, in raising awareness and mitigation of seismic and tsunami risk

WP 2		Seminar to be held in Lagos, inviting the leaders of the Civil Protection of the municipalities of the Algarve coastline to discuss the principles for action on raising awareness and mitigation of sei

WP 3		Realization of the missing studies on risk mapping and on the social vulnerability.

WP 4		(CEPRIS - Marrocos) Project launching Days in the villages under study in Morocco: Tangier and M'Diq.

WP 5		(CEPRIS - Marrocos) Performing field work to study the vulnerability of a school and a hospital in Tanger (inviting the authorities to follow these scientific studies).

2015

WP 1		Traveling exhibition to present at the various parishes and in different local associations.

WP 2		Preparation of materials (leaflets, posters, signage) to put in risk areas and points of population concentration, and to distribute in associations and schools.

WP 3		Project final Seminar.

Expected Results

2014

Implementation of the cooperation channels between institutions and target populations.

2015

Proposal for events and tools to start a culture of prevention with regard to seismic risk and tsunami. Proposal for measures (technical and political) to increase the resilience of the most vulnerable groups.
