LoKSAND

Local Knowledge and Schools Against Natural Disasters

(Leader: CUEBC; Partners: CRSTRA, ECRM, CERU)

The LoKSAND project constitutes the continuation of IKMeSAND projet, carried out in the two-year period 2018-2019 by CUEBC, with the support of EUR-OPA.

IKMeSAND aimed to improve knowledge of local risks by involving the media in their reporting. LoKSAND aims at the same goal through the involvement of secondary schools.

In Portugal a web platform was constructed to allow the population to report risk situations they encounter. The municipality of Odivelas was selected as pilot area. Different risks that could attain the zone are covered: floods, slope instability and landslides, risks on the cultural heritage, pedestrian and road circulation and others.

The project was presented at a secondary school as well as to the municipal civil protection department.

Main advantage of this platform is that it can be acessed on a computer, laptop and mobile phone.
