1st National Conference on Public Policies for Civil Protection

Climate change is widely recognized as one of the most significant risks and challenges facing humanity.

Mitigating the effects of climate change is directly related to the production of knowledge and the adoption of an effective strategy, based on public policies for civil protection, capable of providing individuals, businesses, institutions, and society in general with adequate levels of preparedness and security to face the risks to which they are exposed.

The Civil Protection system assumes particular relevance in safeguarding people and property, as well as the environment, therefore it is crucial that the country’s strategic options in this area are coherent, consistent, and based on sustained knowledge at the central, regional, and local levels.

Within this framework, the Center for Studies and Intervention in Civil Protection (CEIPC), whose statutory purpose is to promote “study and research that contributes to responsible and proactive citizenship in the field of Civil Protection,” is organizing the 1st National Conference on Public Policies for Civil Protection, on April 16th and 17th, 2024, at the São João Cinema-Theatre in Palmela.

The event, in addition to the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, has the institutional support of the Ministry of Internal Administration, the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, the Portuguese Firefighters League, the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, the Lusófona University, the Institute of Education and Science, and the European Centre for Urban Risks. It also has the support of the Palmela Municipal Council.
